Question About Syncing Two Overlaid Video Clips
Hello there, I am I long time iMovie user and just recently switched to Final Cut Express 4 mainly to take advantage of the option to edit multiple video layers. For my current project, I have a background image/template in video layer 1 on top of which I place another 2 videos, let’s call them video A and video B, in video layers 2 and 3. I import videos A and B separately, but I need to sync them together before I can continue with my project, as video B is a commentary on the events occurring in video A. After I drag each video layer to the timeline from the bin, I render them, but after I make any adjustment – drag one video left or right on the timeline – to attempt to sync them by trial and error, it tells me I must re render them in order to play them back again, which I need to do in order to tell if they are synced up. I know that there must be an easier way to do this that I don’t know about because I am new to the program, because I can’t imagine FC would be such an acclaimed program if this problem were unsolvable. Help would be much appreciated.

If you have to render, I am guessing there is a mis match between the sequence settings and the codec/frame rate/pixel aspect of the clips.
What are those clip settings and what is the sequence setting.

The sequence setting was the Apple 720p codec and the imported files were in .mp4 files using H.264 conversion.

Which Apple 720p codec? What did you shoot the original footage on? What is it’s codec and frame rate?
H264 is not an editing codec. This is probably the twentieth time I have typed that sentence in the past few weeks.
Does anyone bother to do any homework or do you just register and post your question without even the slightest attempt to read some of the current posts or do a simple search.
