  • Question about modifying a sequence

Hey guys. I’m still trying to learn Avid’s offline/online workflow and I’m a little confused about when to choose to Modify a sequence. As far as I know right now, connecting from low res media to high res is as simple as unplugging from a drive with my offline media and reconnecting to another drive with my high res media. But I’ve been seeing some articles about choosing a sequence and having to modify it first.

Is this done when your offline project is a different frame size and frame rate from your online? Like, if I decided to do my offline in an SD 30i project, for instance, but my online was full 1080p? Is this a case when you’d have to modify the sequence first and then change the project settings? If not, what are the circumstances when you would have to Modify a sequence? Thanks in advance.

Modifying a sequence usually occurs when editing SD 23.976 to HD 1080p/23.976 since the timecodes in the START column need to be converted from 30fps (NTSC) to true 24. Same conversion can happen when offlining at true 24.000fps and online needs to be 23.976.
