  • Question about mixing footage w/ different frame rates, codecs…

Posted by Edward Calabig on May 24, 2008 at 8:20 pm

I was wondering which Final Cut I need to mix footage with different frame rates and codecs. I’m being asked to create a project from footage taken from different cameras, dvds/cds, and aspect ratios. Is this possible? If so, what do I need? Anything I need to keep in mind?

If at all possible, I would like to perform this in FCP5.1.

    Thanks.

switching to FCP6 will make this a lot easier.

yes you can do it in 5.1, but you’ll get much clunkier playback.

should not that neither 5 or 6 do good frame rate conversion.
it;s just simple dropping or duplication of frames.

the nattress standards conversion plugin, or compressor will do a better job.

So what should my workflow look like?

Do I import all the footage at the same codec or at their native ones? Then do I convert using some program, then begin editing? Sorry I’m new to mixing footage.
