Question about Dynamic Link
Hey so I’ve been doing some research and haven’t really been able to come up with an answer so here goes…
I’m editing a green screen video in premiere. The edits are finished and I’m sending the sequence over to after effects for keying and some other stuff. I duplicated my sequence in case I have to go back and make changes and then proceeded to use dynamic link.
Keying is done so now I’m back in premiere. I’m curious, if I have to make any changes to this edit how do I handle that? Of course it would be perfect if the client signed off on the cuts before I key but we all know that isn’t the reality no matter how much you encourage it.
I have my old sequence which I can access but do I have to send that back into AE and start my work over again?
I thought I was being clever by trying to nest my sequence then send that to after effects thinking that after effects would see it as a pre comp but it sees it as one comp.I guess I’m looking for some guidance and to see other people’s work flows. Sorry if this is rambling, the coffee is starting to kick in. Thanks in advance!

Two things.
1 – when you send the sequence (or a clip, or a series of clips) over to After Effects, you will create an .aep file which is an After Effects Project file. In order to edit it again, you merely have to right click ‘edit original’ and you’re back in AE. Actually, if both Premiere Pro and the accompanying AE comp are open if you make a change in AE, it will automagically show up in Premiere Pro.
2 – Have you tried the “ultra Keyer” in Premiere Pro? It is remarkably good and there are some broadcast shows that are using it with good results.

I’m more curious about changes made in Premiere and having them update in After Effects. So for instance A client suddenly says oh I want this take instead of what you have here. I go back to my sequence in Premiere, drop in the new take and then have it show up in my linked AE project. Is this possible?
I did fuss around with the ultra keyer and it was pretty good but I guess my question can relate to other pipelines and is not limited to green screen work.

If you replace a series of clips in Premiere Pro and send it to Premiere Pro, the edits must be done in AE. You’d have to import the different take into AE and then make the ‘edit’ there.
