  • Question about croping and image quality

Posted by Michal Bronec on September 23, 2011 at 4:38 pm

I have clips with resolution 1920×1080 on my timeline. My project is set to 1280×720, my output will be also 1280×720. The question is: when I crop some of the clips (so their resolution will be somewhere between 1280×720 and 1920×1080) will they have the same image quality as other clips that havent been croped (after exported to 1280×720)? (Sorry for my english, I hope you understand me :-))

The quality will be the same.
I shoot at 1440 x 1080 but deliver in 720 x 480 (DVD) and I crop a lot of my footage to get rid of things I don’t want to see or to change the shot (from a waist shot to something tighter for example).

Thanks! BTW, if my original footage is 1920×1080 and my delivery is 1280×720, should I set my project to 1920×1080 or 1280×720? Or maybe it doesnt matter?

For smoother timeline playback, your project properties should match your source footage (i.e. set it to 1920×1080).
