question about audio
hi can i preview the video and audio together in after effects?
if so i know that if use keypad . it will give you an audio preview
and when i use space bar it will give me a ram preview of video. no audio is played though and im sure that isnt right. the decibel metre does not move and the only setting i can see for audio is in ram preview which brings up a mute symbol on the speaker icon.
can you suggest anything to help?

just to add to this the mute symbol that appears on top of the speaker symbol when selected is a red stop sign.
ive also checked my windows playback settings and there are none muted

How Ironic. I’m in the middle of doing aftereffects tutorials, and I just came into that issue. I didn’t know what it was and did extensive troubleshooting from allocating virtual memory to reinstallation to the basics like what you did. whenever I do a RAM Preview in the timeline, i cannot get any sound, however anywhere else i do. I’ve also checked the preferences as well as any help files.

When you hit the space bar you get a preview that may not be actual speed (based on your machine)but it will not play audio. Zero on the numeric keypad (not the keyboard)will give you a RAM preview that loads your comp into RAM based on how much RAM you have and this will play audio and at actual comp settings. Also hitting the period key on the numeric keypad will play just the audio based on the audio-preview time set in your preferences.

Also check your AE preferences so that the audio preview is set to longer than 8 seconds. I routinely set mine to preview 30 seconds of audio.
