  • Question about adding PAL footage into an NTSC project

Posted by Jack Pitzer on June 30, 2008 at 6:48 pm

    Greetings,
I’m working on a music documentary which is primarily NTSC footage.
I have a few PAL VHS tapes that I need to capture the footage from to add into the project.
I own a Canopus ADVC300 converter, and I’m thinking of buying a Sharp VCA-50 deck to use with the ADVC300 for capture.
Does this sound like a good workflow?
Are there any best practices for adding the PAL footage into the NTSC project?
Should I convert the PAL footage to NTSC using Compressor prior to importing it into the NTSC project?
I’m trying to avoid purchasing any additional hardware for this project because it’s likely to be the only project i’ll be taking on that includes PAL footage.
Any hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!
    Jack

It is best to convert all footage to NTSC and then edit… if your finished product is to be in NTSC.
Converter does a good job of conversions.
I know you don’t want to buy any extra bits and pieces but I took the small plunge and bought the Nattress converter plug in for FCP and it rocks. It was only about $100… which is worth less each day.
    Cheers
