Hi, guys first hope you are well. My question is the following: I shot a feature film on letterbox (not sqeeze mode) on the DVX100a, would like to know how can I achieve or get a true 16×9 image. Can I do that by going up to HD? What would be the best way?

    Thanks,

    Antonio

You would lose resolution but you’d need to make a 16:9 sequence and then adjust the scale and aspect ratio of the footage to fill the frame.

If I understand, We edited on Final cut pro so my editor would have to adjust or make the changes there? What I want to do is have a 16×9 version of the film for film festivals. If I can just have my master on dvcam and not have to upconvert to hd to get 16×9 then I will be happy.

Are you understanding that HD and 16:9 are not the same thing? 16:9 is an aspect ratio and HD is a resolution. You can have 16:9 in standard definition and high definition.

In my experiences with festivals having something in 16:9 is actually less advantageous than 4:3 letterbox because it’s a lot easier to incorrectly project. Here’s more info on what 16:9 actually is:
