Check the AJA website….nice little teaser for tomorrow 10-20-05……hmmm could it be the PCI Express Kona 3?

    I am incorrect.

    Very cool,
Like I said, I wouldn’t worry about AJA. Their engineering is plenty fast.

Are you certain you configured them similarly? The only quad-core 9300 I saw at hp.com was starting at $8k.

Yeah, I get a discount from a major manufacturer and even with their discount the system I want costs 5K. These machines are promising.

[Andy Edwards] “..hmmm could it be the PCI Express Kona 3?”

Yes, but how long did Kona2 take to get here after it was announced? 😉

That was a driver issue more than anything else. Once BMD stopped supporting AJA hardware they had to write their drivers as well as create the hardware. A company like AJA builds new hardware on spec for customers all the time. But as you say the proof will be in the pudding. Even BMD has had problems delivering their Multibridge on schedule because other suppliers let them down.

I went to boxxtech.com and configured a dual core AMD (lowest end – 265s) and configured a base model spec’ed like a base G5 quad and one with the 4500 FX and let’s just say that the G5 was VERY competetive (by several hunderd dollars in the later case).

Now, I can’t say how closely these perform to one another as I suspect the quad G5 may be faster than the quad 265s but, this gives you a solid idea how truly comparable workstation-class options are.

-gl <- willing to take either setup without complaint 😉

I’ve had my Dual 2.7 with 8GB memory for about a month now…and I’m very happy…no buyers remorse here.
