anyone with an opportinity to test this scenario, or similar?

just exported a QT Movie for a 2’30” sequence (DV PAL) w/ Current Settings and “Make Self-Contained Movie” checked
took about 1’20” to export on a 2.16GHz MacBook Pro with 2GB RAM, resulting file size approx 540MB
exported same sequence with the “Make Self-Contained Movie” unchecked … identical result (actually took very slightly longer to export)
surely the second version (reference movie version) should have exported significantly faster and resulted in a much smaller file size??

    Mac OS X 10.4.7, FCP 5.1.1, QT 7.1.2

    can anyone replicate this problem?

    many thanks in advance
    Andy

Was everything rendered before you exported?

    All the best,

nothing to render Tom, this was just a test with some native DV clips thrown into a native DV timeline, cuts only … trimmed down to 2’30” and exported as QT Movie with “make self-contained” both checked and unchecked.

result – two movie clips identical in size (540MB) and taking the same time to export

would you mind to run a similar test yourself, from within FCP? I’d value your insight.

noted. in this test however, the clips I used were not manipulated in any way … native source > matching native sequence > export quicktime movie
if you have a moment to test for yourself i would appreciate your findings.

    I’m using v5.1.1. Self-contained DV 2:30:00 is 543.9MB. Reference movie is 27.6MB.

    All the best,

thanks Tom … yep, my results are proving eratic at best.

earlier I was reproducing the problem ad infinitum. now testing on my own laptop at home and getting ‘real’ results as per your own.

really do appreciate your having taken the time to check it out.

    very best regards
    Andy
