Qt import problems
Start a film is shot in arri d21 on tape HD to assemble in 24ips and finalcut. In a laboratory in Madrid we are preparing a qt of each day of shooting in Apple Prores 422 ( HQ ) At 24 fps with the time code information and number of tape, Also TC screen. Today I saw the first two items and I found that, Qt open it in everything seems ok, But to import it into finalcut freezes me the first 3 frames of image but the time code that runs itself. Accordingly, Compared with the code of the tape on the screen, The zygo finalcut is using the outdated 3 frames. Is very surreal and I do not know what to do.

Are you seeing the freeze in the viewer window or on an external monitor? If it’s on the monitor, via a video playback/capture card, you may have the wrong video output settings.
Can you be clearer about what you are seeing – and where you see the timecode run? Are you saying there is burnt-in timecode on the video, and you are seeing this run, but not the video?

Hi Ben,
I’ll try to explain myself in English to avoid the automatically translator.
I do have a QT, that comes from a postproduction company, from HDCAM tapes which has the timecode information in it and also on screen. When I import it into a FinalCut project, I can see (in all the windows and monitors) that it has 3 freezed frames at the beginning, so the timecode on the screen is still. BUT the real timecode, the internal one that ought to be the same that the one on the screen, is running. So, there’s a 3 frames difference between both.
That’s a problem because I will have to export an EDL that would not match the tapes that are in the postproduction company.
I’ve tried in two different computers and it happens the same. What its strange is that the QT opened quick time programme reproduces the time code correctly.
Do you have any idea of what may be the problem?

Hi Ana,
First, I’d try opening the file in quicktime and re-saving it in a different folder as a “self contained” movie. Open this new file and see if the problem is still there. If this doesn’t work, you can use the “modify>timecode” command in FCP to manually change the timecode on your file to match the visual burn in. That should ensure a proper EDL. Good luck! Do a test EDL on a short program and check it in a text editor to make sure the numbers are correct.
