Publishing titles from Motion
So I’ve been playing around with publishing some basic animated title templates in Motion. I can see great potential here as I used to go back to After Effects to make title changes, then render and import. The ability to make FCPX editable templates will be a real time saver once I figure out the details.
When I put my 10 second title template on the FCPX timeline, it shows up as a 25 second clip. The animation itself is only 10 seconds, after which the clip is straight alpha channel. If I try to trim the clip down to its original length, it gets retimed instead of trimmed; i.e. the full animation will be 5 seconds long instead of 10. Anyone have any tips?

Make the title into a compound clip, and trim the compound clip.

OK, I figured out that I can set a “loop end” marker in Motion and that will fix the length of the title animation in FCPX; i.e. I can trim the title without retiming it. However, the title is still coming in at 25 seconds long and it’s looping the 10 second animation.

That will certainly work, Tom; but it’s a band-aid solution. I’m looking for the root cause and a cure!

It looks like I had a couple of empty groups floating around in my Motion timeline that gave it the extra length. I deleted them and all is well. 🙂

Root cause may be in Motion. Frame rate maybe?
