public domain footage and music

October 19, 2006 at 1:05 pmCheck out Prelinger Archives…They have a lot of public domain films and video. Remember those sex ed/driving ed films from high school (those black & white ones), sure bet they have them. These clips are available for download in mpeg1,2,4 formats and can be converted in AE to your native AVI format or converted with a mpeg to avi convertor.

I have use a few clips from some of these films to illustrate the “back then compared to now” point in some local commercials and promotions. Very handy when you need a vintage look of bank, car dealership, school etc.
Be wary though…There are some shorts and cartoons that feature well-known characters…although those clips are public domain the characters’ images and/or logos-names are licensed and copyrighted (ex. Three Stooges, Betty Boop, Bugs Bunny, etc)
