I have imported some psd files into a composition, used them in the project as image wipe transitions, and when I export and render the composition they either didn’t render at all or rendered stuttery/otherwise poorly.

They were brought in as footage, selecting the layer I wanted and imported them as layer size. They’re being super imposed over video. Is there some step I’m missing that’s causing them to not export out in the end? They play fine with in a ram-preview.

sounds like alpha channel missing, rgba millions+ not millions. If exporting to FCP, use straight not premultiplied.

    Thanks for the response.

I have tried to export it with and without an alpha channel, and premultiplied or straight and it’s giving me the same results each time. The first image starts to wipe across and then disappears. The second image which happens a few minutes later wipes all the way across, but stutters in the middle.

The images are tracking across the screen over two adjustment layers (which were used for color correction). Could that be a problem?

Well I once had a problem like this in Premiere CS3. I fixed it by rendering out 8bpc instead of 32bpc. If you use 8bpc transition effects in 32bpc projects in Premiere, sometimes the transition effects don’t work. It makes no sense, but at least it’s a workaround.

hm. They are rendering at 8bpc. Should I try 32 instead?

Oh, that crashed it. 16bpc worked, but also eventually crashed it. 🙁
