Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy PSD fuzziness

    Hey all,

After much googlesearching and forum-crawling, I haven’t yet found an answer to my question, so I bring it to you. I’m importing some multi-layer psds in RGB format into FinalCut Pro 6.0.5. Problem is, in the timeline, they appear extremely fuzzy, even when outputted. When I view the image file in the viewer, however, it looks fine.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

Probably the most common problem on this forum is confusion regarding image quality in the Canvas. We see it here many times per week. Next time, please check out the search function.

The best way to avoid this confusion is to add a broadcast monitor to your system, as it should be. If you only monitor via the Canvas, and do not use a broadcast monitor, you can only see an approximation of the final output.

Not in your budget? You can see what your output might look like by setting the Canvas precisely 100%. Don’t resize it to 100% by dragging, just set it via the Zoom pop up menu in the Canvas.

    Hope that helps you.

What you see in the Viewer is not affected by the compression settings in the timeline. What you see in the Canvas *is* affected by the compression settings in the timeline. So, for example, if you have a nice, hi-res PSD it will look clean in the Viewer. If you drop it into a DV-NTSC timeline the PSD will get totally pummeled by the DV codec and look worse in the Canvas. What you see in the Canvas can also be affected by the different RT display options.

Thanks, folks! Sorry if this is a repeat post. I did a forum search and couldn’t find it.

I’ve since sized the image down for NTSC and it looks good. Perhaps my image was just too big…
