psb (photo shop large document format) unrecognzed by FCP
I am working on really big still backdrops that I want to move across the screen in FCP and the photo shop document I can only save it in because of its size is psb (photo shop large document format),
but FCP doesnt accept that.. the only other option photshop gives is tiff.. which fcp doesnt like either.. what do i do??
is there maybe a way to cut it up and join pieces in FCP again? always looks like it quiet doesnt fit exactly.. plus Im adding movements to the layers..so, please help!
(all I’m trying to get is the view of a sky moving around and around and around.. so I put lots of skies in line and wanted to move them across in one file.)

You could try Motion (although I suspect it will reject the format as well). Motion also has an object size limit of 4000×4000 pixels.
If you need esoteric support of Adobe products, you’d be much better off working with these items in After Effects – it will probably do a much better job of compositing the moves anyway.
If you have a recent version of Photoshop, you may not be aware that there are options within the video sections of it for animating and rendering video directly within photoshop – RTM.
If you only have access to Final Cut and older Photoshop, you will have to cut your cloth accordingly, and reduce the object sizes – FCP is not a compositing tool.

I have cs3 photoshop.. I guess thats old, right?
and after effects I would need to get acquainted with.. never worked with it myself. so maybe not the best situation right now to learn it with a deadline coming up..do you think there was a way to cut up the images and put them seamlessly together again in fcp?
or do you have any other idea of how I could get footage of a sky spinning? 🙂
I was already thinking I composite it from scratch.. use, blue background, some keyable clouds and move them around .. what do u think?

I just would not recommend using FCP for this kind of use. I THINK the video keyframing functions are in CS3 (I use CS4, but I don’t recall seeing it in the ‘new’ section).
If you have AE, have a look – it’s not that scary for what you want to do.

I think your choices would be
1 – After Effects would probably do fine here and as another person said, would probably do a better job of compositing anyway.
2 – Try Premiere Pro CS4 which will natively import either PSD (haven’t tried PSB) or TIFF and then animate within the Premiere Pro.
3 – Flatten to .png and try again in FCP. -
AE supports 30,000 x 30,000 as of right now – probably making your suggestion the best one Ben.
