  • Proxy timeline sync issues in Premiere CS3

    Hi all,

I have a problem with my proxy files. I have created low res proxys and kept the hi res HD 1080p originals. My issue is that when I go to replace my proxys in the timeline with the originals (by way of replace clip>with clip from bin etc) the proxy clip that I am replacing with a hi res original will always go back to the start of the original.
e.g. If I had cut 5 seconds off the start of my proxy, when I go to replace it, it will start right back at the start of the original (losing that 5 sec’s) making the timeline clip out of sync.

It’s probably some small thing I’m not doing but I have looked around a bit and and tried various methods but can’t seem to find a solution.

If someone could help me out and outline some steps to take that would be great 🙂 I’m itching to start this project but am being held back.

    Thanks in advance.

Don’t replace the clip in the timeline, use replace footage in the project panel. This, I think, should keep to edits the same. You do not import the new footage just follow the replace footage dialogue.

Thanks for that Richard but That did not work for me. I actually descovered how to manually do it though. You hold Shift+Option and drag the hi res clip and drop it over the top of the low res one in the timeline. This kept the edits 🙂 Yuss!

    Hi Richard,

I guess I spoke too soon. My method only works some of the time, which is really strange.

I couldn’t seem to find the ‘replace footage’ action in the project Tab. Project Tab has the following: Project settings>Link media>Make offline>Automate to Sequence>Import/Export Batch list>Project Manager and Remove unused.

If we are talking about the actual project panel where all the bins are stored, I couldn’t find it there either.

Can you please elaborate as I thought I had it down tonight…..until I rendered…

    thanks
    Steve

I’ve just noticed your using CS3, perhaps that option is not there in that version. In CS5.5 you just right click (on PC) the asset in the project panel and it gives you the ‘replace footage’ option.

If it’s not there you can use “Make Offline” and then “Link Media” to achieve the same result. If the original files are in the same folder structure as the proxies, you may be able to relink batches of files at once. (seems to be hit or miss… I managed it with HDV footage but not with P2.)
