    Hi-
Just captured some HDV 24p footage as ProRes 422 in FCP 7. Everything fine except the files do not have the .mov extension, so are not importable. As a test I captured one, took it offline, and then tried to reconnect. Would not reconnect until I added the .mov extension to the file name. I have a problem in that I have around a hundred files that are off-line and can’t be imported. Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Use Automator to add .mov to the files.

Any idea why this is happening in the first place?

    Thx

Nope but I have seen the same thing with FC7. Im sure the first update to the the new software will address this. This is really the only bug I have seen with the new FCS3 and it really does not hinder things in any way so its not bad.

FCP used to capture without file extensions for some media, perhaps this is some left over code that wasn’t fixed.

I would also go to the finder and choose FInder > Preferences and make sure that the “show all file extensions” option is checked.

I don’t have the capability (no HDV) to capture the exact way that you do, so I can’t test the workflow. Sorry about that, but I’ll help anyway.

For these captures, just add the .mov, then we will try and fix the bigger problem.

Same thing is happening with me in FCP7. Immediate impact: SMOOTHCAM won’t function on a file designated as a text file rather than a “mov.” file. Will likely implement Jeremy’s suggestion of renaming files via automator. Hope this gets fixed.
