    Hello all,
Trying to convert 1920 x 1280 HD 24 p (23.97) prores422 footage to cineform intermediate of like aspect ratio. Attempted putting the prores422 on the timeline and then using this process https://cineform.com/products/TechNotes/FCPExport.htm
, but cannot seem to get the compressor to allow the same aspect ratio as the original. It outputs to 2045 x something else. Must be 2k?

If you have a suggested method of doing this do tell–or some ideas on what the settings should be. As a non final cut user I am a little lost. Could it be that you have to scan for the addition of the new codec to have it come up on a dropdown menu?

The footage will go to a windows machine and then edited in premier or sony then rewrapped for a tape out.

Thanks for any info or assistance you can give me.

Check the clips settings in the FCP browser window. Check the resolution and pixel aspect. If it’s not square, change it to square.

If that doesn’t work, then my guess is that ProRes won’t work with that res. Try converting it to Cineform using Quicktime Pro.

    Sean,
Thanks for your help. I will give that a try. Could you elaborate on using quick time pro? I thought prores was prorietary and there was not quick time pro option–thought it had to be done in final cut studio 2 if it dealt with prores.

    Thanks,
    John

No, ProRes is just a regular Quicktime component and works like any other. It’s that the only way to purchase it is to buy FCS2.

    Sean,
Thanks for that info. I did not know that.
Could you eloborate a little more. Are you saying open quick time pro, load the prores file, and render to the cineform codec?

A friend is doing this for me on her final cut program, so I am just making sure I understand your recommendation.

    thanks,
    John
