  • Prores Proxy and LT files only show audio – Prores HQ and 422 fine – Vegas pro 12 and 13

    Hello guys!

    Camera: Blackmagic Pocket

I’ve used Vegas pro 12 for a couple of years, recently purchased 13. Prores Proxy and LT files only show the audio tracks when importing to timeline for both v12 and v13, no video track at all, not even media offline. Prores HQ and 422 work just fine.

They used to work just fine. Opening old projects that were shot on LT shows a video track with “media offline”

Any idea why this would be happening?

I have an older version of Quicktime installed (7.6) because I can’t get Prores to open with any other version of Quicktime, only 7.6 works – go figure.

Note: Earlier this year when Apple announced ceasing quicktime support for windows I uninstalled my quicktime and installed Quicktime alternative, then tried a couple of different versions of quicktime – this is when the issues started,. Here is that old thread if you’re interested: https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/998235

This is your problem. There is no reason to use an older version of QuickTime. As I said in your earlier post, I have QuickTime 7.7.9 for Windows working fine with ProRes 422 files in Vegas Pro 12 & 13. So the latest QuickTime should work. Why don’t you try it? (although the fact that you installed a QuickTime alternative might also still be messing things up if it didn’t uninstall cleanly)

Hi John, sorry I should have been clearer in my post, when I said:

“I have an older version of Quicktime installed (7.6) because I can’t get Prores to open with any other version of Quicktime, only 7.6 works – go figure.”

I meant that I have tried various other versions of Quicktime and none of them work. Including 7.7.9

Also John, have you ever tried LT and Proxy?

Yes, I have no problems with Apple ProRes 422 LT or Apple ProRes 422 Proxy files with Vegas Pro 13. Both video and audio show up and playback just fine. I just tested to make sure. No problems at all. I created the ProRes 422 files with Apple Final Cut Pro X.
