ProRes playback on QT player vs FCP Timeline

I had the same problem, and the solution was quite simple. My monitor gamma was set to 2.2 (which is the default in Snow Leopard). I changed it to 1.8 and now the video in the FCP preview monitor and the Quicktime render look identical.

With gamma at 2.2 the video in the FCP preview monitor actually appeared darker, while the Quicktime render appeared the same.
