Yeah, I looked that up too, but wasn’t familiar with the monitor. I have a feeling something else is amiss with the setup.

Is your output 1080 psf 23.98?

[John Kaley] “I’m not entirely sure of that…I can select different pulldown patterns from the RT menu and easily see the differences on the Panasonic plasma even with the Kona set at 2:3:3:2. “

STOP using the RT menu –

follow Jeremy’s directions and it will work.

Your CPU is not fast enough to do more than the simplest 2:2:2P:4 pulldown method so let the card do all the work – FYI I doubt you can see the difference on 42″ display unless you are very, very, well versed at looking at Pulldown cadences.

[Chris Borjis] “The panasonic plasma should accept 24p video no problem.
    HDMI should work. “

that would be possible if the 42″ plasma he indicated supported more than the 1.1 version of HDMI – which does NOT support 24 frame playback or 60i

That and you’d need some sort of SDI to HDMI converter.

Follow this advice. Final Cut doesn’t do 2:3 pulldown. You need to use a 23.98 sequence and let the Kona add the pulldown during video playback.

I wish it was that easy.

I’m trying to output a 1080P23.98sF sequence to HDcamSR 1080i29.97

This still doesn’t work. I’m encountering the same issue. When you set the A/V settings to 29.97, indeed that’s what you get… but this overrides the Kona3, and K3 is forced to 2:2:2:4 cadence to 29.97 on either the A or B output. Also, the FCP Edit to Tape settings are all wrong and will not edit accurately.

I have attempted to set the 2:3 cadence in every dialogue in Final Cut, but it. does. not. work. period.

Yes, it is a ProRes HQ sequence, so I’m going to try stepping back to ProRes Plain Vanilla. If that works I will consider it a smoking gun. With the bullet still coming out of it.

Where are you setting the ‘A/V settings’?

[Joseph Owens] “I have attempted to set the 2:3 cadence in every dialogue in Final Cut, but it. does. not. work. period.”

You shouldn’t have a 3:2 dialogue in the timeline, as your timeline should be 23.98. FCP thinks everything is 23.98, and it’s only the KOna video output that is 29.97. The Kona handles the pulldown and your timeline needs to be 23.98.

One more question, what kind of MacPro, and how much RAM? In the rt menu of the sequence, can you highlight the ‘High’ Playback Video Quality or is it grayed out?

have you set the cadence in codec pane of the Kona Control panel?
I have no issue with the cadence if you set the output to be 29.97 via the control panel and not via FCP.
