The official, free Avid DNxHD QuickTime codec is pretty ghastly — it’s prone to weird artifacting in highlights at 10b

Thanks Walter, I’ve been exporting DNxHD and getting lots of green pixels appearing in the highlights. Good to know it isn’t me!

The “Free” Avid codec is a quicktime wrapped version and as Walter mentioned may have issues.

True DNxHD has an MXF extension which is proper.

[Joseph W. Bourke] ” You’re right about ghastly – every time I’ve tried to call up the preferences interface in AE, it shows up way at the top of the screen, cut off, and difficult to choose options from. Hopefully, this might present a better GUI to the user.”

I’m a bit late with this, but this was fixed. Just install the latest version of the codec from Avid.

Multi core encoding I believe is their advantage on the Avid Codec

Miraizon will stop providing their products at the end of January!
They have accepted an offer of “a larger company” to be acquired.
    https://www.miraizon.com/

I have doubts that we see the codec from another company in future!

I simply hope that the industry moves to a codec that makes more sense, to a codec that is widely available for different platforms. The propritairy Apple crap is not really helpful to exchange footage! I hope that Cineform will get its place in workflows since it is part of Premiere CC & now SMPTE standard.
And for sure, it is the most advanced codec actually.

As of today Miraizon ProRes Codecs converter is no longer available….

Are there any other alternatives which will integrate into Adode Media Encoder on Windows?

There is no alternate solution at similar price tag at the moment.
You could buy Mediareactor Workstation from Drastic Technologies,
they have integrated a QuickTime Component based on ffmpeg.

Good software, but it’s a bit expensive if you just need a ProRes encoder.

There is also Cinemartin. It’s not a free plug-in, though. Right now Cinemartin Pro is on sale 79 Euro.

Just to correct the price, it’s 179 € for a non Apple certified converter, partially based on Open Source development.

They have started with a free version and a so called “Pro” version.
Later they have provided the product at an extreme price Tag.
Since they are realizing that they can’t sell many licenses they force upsells by giving discounts.
I assume that they still use their strange user Interface.
I prefer Telestream Switch which can create Apple ProRss HQ422 codec.
