ProRes 422 Conversion plugin for After Effects (Windows)
Posted by Gui Goz on March 13, 2013 at 10:02 amHi everyone,
I developed a small ProRes 422 conversion plugin for after effects (windows). I’ve seen many topics on this forum about it so I post it here.
It looks like this:
It’s based on ffmpeg and it’s free 🙂
You can read more and download it here:

Do not hesitate if you have any comments or questions.
Thank you!

March 14, 2013 at 9:10 amTried the plugin (in fact, the script). It’s working pretty well. Thanks Gui for writing and sharing it.
Any contact email for future suggestions?(Searched the site, couldn’t find the contact email)

April 12, 2013 at 5:06 pmYou must install the script correctly and run it as explained on the web site. This error appears because you didn’t run it from the After Effects’ “Window” menu.

April 12, 2013 at 5:47 pmWOW,It’s work now.
It’s really excellent and useful.
But it doesn’t have ProRes 4444 codec? Do you will add it in next update? -

April 13, 2013 at 8:22 amProbably for the 444 but i’m not sure that ffmpeg’s prores 4444 encoder works properly. I’m going to check that.

May 6, 2013 at 3:07 pmCould either of you tell me how to work this plugin?
I installed it (or so I think I did) and the GUI shows in AE but when I tried rendering out to prores, it didn’t do anything so not sure if it is fully installed or what is missing.
Are you supposed to be able to render out a comp like normal through this?
Need help. I posted on the Adobe site a couple days ago but didn’t hear back.
Thanks ahead.

May 6, 2013 at 3:18 pmNo, this plugin can only reencode a video source, you must select a video in the project tab, not a comp.
I usually render the comp in animation with parameters i want, reimport the render in AE then convert it to prores.
If my plugin don’t work when you try to convert a video, you probably didn’t check “allow script to write files” in the general preferences.
I’m going to do an update of the script soon, with an installer, prores 4444 support and probably an automatic pre-rendering 🙂

May 6, 2013 at 3:47 pmHello,
Ok, so no comps. That was actually the very question I left in Adobe forum yesterday or day before. 🙂
So, if the GUI pops up then what should I expect to see once I bring in a rendered video track? Will it prompt where to save, etc?
Will this also then work from Adobe Premiere? I’m in process of making the switch from Sony Vegas (after years) to Premiere Pro.
Thanks.

May 6, 2013 at 4:07 pmYou just have to import your video as you normally do it, select it in the Project tab and just clic on “convert to prores”, the prores file will be generated in the same folder than the original. Or you can select an output folder in the plugin just clicking on the “change output folder” button :d
The plugin don’t work in premiere, but you can export a video file from premiere, import it in after effects then convert it.
