  • Proper offloading of .MTS files from a SDHC card using Windows 7

Howdy, I just wanted to double check that I’m doing this correctly. I searched both the Manual and Help in the program and could find nothing regarding AVCHD files other than using the Device explorer, but this is used when the camera is cabled to the computer, not using SDHC cards.

So, here is what I do. I open the drive that has the SDHC card. I then see three folders 1)DCM 2)Misc 3)Private. I open Private and see two folders 1)AVCHD 2)Metgroup. I open Metgroup and see a whole bunch of folders. One is called Stream. I open this and then see all my numbered clips.

I then drag these clips to my documents folder. When I want to use a clip in a project, I then use the import function in Sony Vegas to add the clip to my Project media window. Correct procedure. Thanks for the help!

No. Plug the card back into the camera and use the Device Explorer.

SDHC cards are limited to 4GB max file sizes. If you record longer than the 4GB max, your camera will split the file into multiple 4GB sections. Device Explorer will stitch these files back together into the original recording. Simply dragging and dropping from the card will not. Dragging and dropping may lead to breaks in the audio/video when you drop these non-stitched sections onto the Vegas timeline.

If none of your recordings are over the 4GB limit then there is no difference either way but I always use the Device Explorer just in case.
