  • Proper Capture Presets for offline 24p? Any benefit in capturing at 1080i50 23.98?

I’m taking over an edit for a director. He captured all the footage at 23.98 using the DVCPro HD 1080i50 preset? The footage was shot on the Sony F900 at 23.98. It seems like this will cause a big headache when it’s time to online. The capture preset I should be using instead for the offline in FCP is the DVC Pro HD 720p24, correct? The online would be at 23.98 on a Discreet Flame. Besides ignorance is there any practical reason he would do this? Is anyone else working this way? I have a feeling that somewhere along the way someone put this bug in his ear as a good way to work. What do the experts say?

Thanks but none of that really answers my question. I’m very familiar with all the formats. I work at a visual effects company in Los Angeles but not an editorial house, so Final Cut is only an occasional thing for me. I’m just trying to figure out why this director is capturing the footage with a PAL preset: DVCProHD 1080i50 when it was shot NTSC 23.98. He probably just doesn’t know what he’s doing. Thanks anyway.
