O.K So I just up-graded to FCP 7 and Leopard.

Updated new kona drivers. Updated Cal Digit drivers to support snow Leopard.

    Here is my problem.

Some of my larger projects(50mb) are now taking more than 15 min to open. One took 57min. They used to take only 1-2 minutes.

I put all of my plug -ins in the trash and tried to open the projects-same result

I opened a NEW project and tried to copy the problem project timelines to the new project. this approach gave me a spinning beachball.

    I’m stumped

Everything plays fine-once they are open.

    Any Ideas?

You need to fix permissions using Apple Disk Utility. And, if you have Disk Warrior, run that on all drives as well. That should help… However, for the record, was yours a clean ground-up install, or did you install over the top of FCS2?

    Thanks for the response-
It was not a clean install.
    I have tried Disc-warrior-no joy
I have repaired permissions-did not help
Even when I dismount my raid- the project takes 15 min to load.
Some of my smaller projects ( 10MB ) load in 30 seconds.
I am thinking that there must be a filter,plug-in, or something in the bigger timelines that is causing this

I suspect you are encountering a problem that will probably require either an uninstall using Digital Rebellion FCP remover and a reinstall, or a ground up reinstall.

..or put the media off-line and try to open the project.
To install a full new system on top of an old one is a mistake.

Also in the shopping list of troubleshooting steps … delete your thumbnail cache folder (remarkably efficacious in speeding up launch time) or the all time favorite, trash your preferences (Digital Rebellion’s excellent and free Preference Manager app does that and much more)

    Thanks everyone for your suggestions
    I guess I will clean re-install.

It just seems odd. If the system requires a re-install, why do some projects load as they should, and others take 50 times longer.

Will I be able to do the reinstall with just the FCP 7 upgrade discs?

Intermittent behavior is what you often get when you cut corners by not doing a clean install, period end of story. It’s just a fact of life, and anyone who doesn’t do a clean install is just rolling the dice with their career and their reputation.

Yes, you just need your old serial number.
