Projection Strategy, DVCPRO HD Original

Our indie feature was posted in FCP 5.0.4 on DVCPRO HD @ 23.98 1080i60 (original footage 23.98 HDCAM). A QT export with current quality settings is 62GB. We are soon to project it in a 400-seat local theatre with in-house Proxima 9310 projector with these specs:

Resolution-
XGA 1024×768

VGA (640 x 480, Fit-to-View)
SVGA (800 x 600, Fit-to-View)
XGA (1024 x 768)
SXGA (1280 x 1024, Fit-to-View) wide format (16:9 aspect) capable

Video Input: Component, S-Video, Composite

We tested a well-encoded DVD on site via S-video and it looked passable, so for the big night we’ll use a component-out DVD player. But, wouldn’t it be great to use the projector’s maximum quality? So does anyone know what type of signal / data to feed this Proxima to take advantage of what its specs call “SXGA (1280 x 1024, Fit-to-View) wide format (16:9 aspect) capable” functionality? Its manual does not explain “Fit-to-View”; no luck with response from Proxima support for further explanation.

What playback device appropriate for this projector would yield better, less-compressed image quality than simply a component-out DVD player? At this time we can’t afford to rent an HD-capable projector and HDCAM player, so this Proxima is our current challenge.

Caveat: if a solution involves bringing our G5 tower to the theatre, the system from our edit room cannot travel. Our screening is in 10 days. Thanks for any ideas!

Thanks for the responses! We have only a 3-year old G4 1ghz PowerBook w/ 1GB RAM.

If I could get a more juiced laptop, what type of movie file at what aspect ratio could feed that projector’s “SXGA (1280 x 1024, Fit-to-View) wide format (16:9 aspect) capable” resolution?

If that particular resolution setup is somehow hinky, then what is the most reliable movie file format that will look better than DVD, and run reliably?
