PROJECT UNREADABLE
Frustrated! I have a full-length feature project, which I’ve just finished loading all of the media onto drives, and have just organized my bins. During the loading process on occasion, and several days in a row afterwards, when launching FCP 5.1.2, a window reads, “This project is unreadable or may be too new for this version of Final Cut”.
Sometimes, merely rebooting drives and computer has fixed the problem and it would open. Other times I would throw away user data & plist and it might open. And again other times I would open from the auto save vault, rename it to the project name and it would fix the problem.
The last three days, none of these fixes worked. After renaming the backup, throwing away prefs, etc, it might open the project once but the next day, I would get the same window.
When I would get these at the very first, I even deleted all the media (2.5 terabytes), reformatted the drive, and reloaded the media.
My system: Power PC G5 quad 2.5, 4.5 gigs ram, Tiger 10.4.8, FCP 5.1.2, L2 cache per cpu 1mb, bus speed 1.25, GeForce 6600, 20″ Cinema Display & 23″ Cinema Display.
Drives, currently 3 – LaCie 1 Terrabyte. (I have even run the material on a sata system 10X500mg Seagates with the same results)
Media- P2, 1080 24p. Imported with “Remove advanced pulldown and duplicate frames” turned OFF. Project is DVCPRO HD 1080i60, Sequence preset DVCPRO HD 1080P24.
Is this a “bug” inherent to 5.1.2? Since we have just begun the project only one sequence started, would it be advisable to upgrade to 5.1.4? Or is this user error?
It is very important for me to figure this out because another editor is helping me on another system. The projects are named the same, the drives are cloned identically.
I would appreciate any insight and help.
Thank you in advance,
Randy Harrison
