My colleague assured me that when he shot my son’s wedding that his Sony camcorder shot FULL HD (1920X1080i), so I began my project by assigning its properties to this spec. The opening was done using stills and a Digital Juice canned opening, and the events show the file attributes are 1920X1080X32. Well, now that I have gotten to the raw footage, I see that my colleague has delivered 1440X1080X12 (HDV) at a pixel aspect of 1.3333 as opposed to the pixel aspect 1 (Square) of my opening footage. It’s still a flavor of HD, though, to his credit(LOL). Anyway, I really wanted to edit this in full HD 1920X1080 and render it to produce a Blu-Ray in DVD Architect. So what do I do now? Do I need to change my project properties? Do I need to change all of my HDV clips to square pixels? Oy, I’m confused–HELP!!…and thank you in advance.

You’ll be happy to know that you should do absolutely NOTHING! 😉

1440 x 1.333 = 1920 so his footage is 1920×1080 when the non-square 1.3333 PAR footage is converted to square pixels by Vegas. Just keep working at 1920×1080 and everything will be fine.

BTW, the term “FULL HD” refers to a height 1080 as apposed to 720 and has nothing to do with the width of 1920 or 1440 so your colleague did deliver Full HD has he promised.
