Project Properties when saving new Video
Ok, I have Sony Vegas 8.0 and have worked with it many times using my old Mini DV format because it was simple. Now I have this fancy Sony HD handycam that can record some pretty beefy material.
Not to sound stupid but what is the best settings to use when working with video that has been imported in HD? I ask this because every time I try to “render” this massive memory hogging video Sony Vegas locks up. Again, never had a problem before.
I recorded an event using “HD FH” but really don’t NEED that quality to produce a DVD for people. 720p would be fine I would think?
So here is my question:
I am struggling with the project properties. What do I work with where the files aren’t so large so I get a great picture quality upon rendering? BTW, when I work with my current setup with is HD 1080-60i (1920×1080, 29.970 fps) there is so much lag in the preview I can’t even work with it. Very frustrating. I even set the preview to “draft” mode, makes no difference.
So if I set my project to let’s say, HDV 720-30p (1280×720, 29.970 fps) would that only affect the video upon rendering it? How can I work with this video and have my preview screen keep up?
THEN, once I DO get the correct project profile in there what do I set all the other areas at? You know, like “pixel format” and the gobs of other settings?
Sorry, I’m a rookie at this but seem to do fine with my Mini DV. I guess I got lucky.
Any help would be great!
My camera is the Sony HDR-CX110. VERY nice camera but I’m not really needing to produce an “HD” video for this particular project. I had my video settings to high and now I don’t know what to do. I can’t even work with this stuff.
Can I maybe download the latest Vegas on a trial just to get through this? I thought about that too. I don’t know if 8.0 didn’t work well with HD. My computer is fine. I have plenty of HD space and memory. COULD IT BE I am NOT saving the media WITH my project or something? I’m talking about the lag part. I work off an external USB drive. I don’t think that should matter to be honest. Anyway….let me know.
