  • Proj files work fine one day, next day they are corrupted???

Posted by Eric Hunter on October 3, 2013 at 2:59 pm

I am working on a MacBook Pro, using the CS6 suite. All media files and proj files are stored on a G RAID 4TB.

Within the last month, certain files have been unable to copy from the G RAID onto a backup drive. It copies the majority of the file and then stops and gives me a “unable to read or locate file” error. Now this has started happening to my proj files as well.

One day I am working on an edit, everything is normal. Next day, I open the project and get a “file may be corrupt or contain out dated elements” message. I try to copy the proj file to another drive and I get the “unable to read or locate file” message. This is becoming worse and worse, as it has happened to three proj files now.

Finding any information on G RAID issues has been nearly impossible. I have tried clearing permissions, repairing the disk, and importing the damaged proj file into a working proj file. None work. Any ideas?

    Hi Eric,
Where do you store the project file, on the boot drive or the media drive?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

[Eric Hunter] “Within the last month, certain files have been unable to copy from the G RAID onto a backup drive. It copies the majority of the file and then stops and gives me a “unable to read or locate file” error. Now this has started happening to my proj files as well.”

That sounds like you have either a problem with the filesystem or with the physical disks. Since you’re on a Mac, I’d suggest you try DiskWarrior [link].

For the projects, you may be able to find a working autosave file.
