    Hey all,

I’ve been using FCP since 3 in my own personal edit room meaning, I’m the only one using the machine, and I’ve been cutting in FCP since FCP3 (so i’m not ‘new’).

I’m getting progressively sluggish performance on my timeline in FCP6/Leopard.

    I’m not the only one:

I found that changing ANY timeline setting brings back performance and then, over time, it slows again.

    meaning:

dumping render, changing timeline options, doing the above (link) gamma switch, etc.

This is happening in BOTH DV and SD 8bit, all of which is stored on fairly fast raids with plenty of room. The SD 8bit, at the moment, is cuts only. no layers, no effects whatsoever (early in the cut).

It seems like a Leopard issue, however, I never used FCP 6 in tiger.

    Some Specs:

My leopard is a clean install, as is FCP (and actually the whole system)

    Dual 2.5PPC
    DeckLink SP
    software raid external SATA box

    Thanks y’all

At what length of timeline does this show itself?

I have noticed this on FCP 6 on Tiger (G5 Quad) when
the timeline got to around the 20 minute mark.

This was on an SD ProRes timeline, with no mixed footage.

I first noticed it when doing insert edits, the cursor would move the length of the inserting clip, but the clip itself would not show for several seconds, but it would show quickly if I hit the right or left arrow…..weird.

After that doing anything gets really sluggish at times, so I have to quit final cut and restart, I’m good for about 10 minutes then sluggish again.

I would expect this maybe after a 1 hour timeline, but 20 minutes of SD? They need to fix whatever that problem is.

Every editing app I’m aware of does not have a problem like that.
