  • Progressive material on SD 50i- Teranex 2D Upres to 50i or 25p?

I am doing some ingesting with PAL SD material that is original film transfers to digibeta. The film was obviously originally progressive (25p in this case) and was previously transferred to digibeta.

I am up converting this material with a Teranex 2D. Theoretically I feel I should be converting this particular material to HD 25P rather than HD 50i as there is no temporal motion on the interlaced fields, ie two fields are identical each second.

    Thoughts?

How about re-transferring the original film to an HD format?

Hi Shane, it is not an option in this scenario. The films were transferred mid 2000’s. They probably chose digi over HDCAM on cost or it was simply not offered to them.

Ah. I’d opt for 25p, over 50i. Same frame rate. Not sure how interlacing will look in this scenario, does it even show up? because you took 25fps, full frames, and transferred to tape…should still look like full frames. Not like the crap we have to put up with here…24fps telecined to 29.97 interlaced…we see that interlacing.

Interlace is not showing. This is why I thought I might as well get out of the interlace drama by converting to HD 25p through the Teranex.

I will try and get some tests done and report back.
