It has been said that making a film begins with marketing analysis of what is selling and to what demographics. Know what type of material what distributors are looking for before making the flim. In other words, make a quality film that is marketable; not just one you think is good or nice but won’t sell. You’re not the public putting butts in the seats.

In feature films, television, sporting events, etc., there are product placement agencies such as “Above the Line” who deal in product placement:

According to wikipedia on pruduct placement, online-video is experiencing product placement success. Per the Wikipedia article, there’s a lot of ways to use products, advertisements, etc., in your movie, online video, etc.
Check it out. It’s very interesting reading:

Can anyone share any real world experience on product placement, advertising placement, sponsorship, etc.? At what level of market penetration must a production obtain in order to play “Let’s Make a Deal?”

I remember back in college one summer I interned as a PA on a local move. They did product placements of several local restaurants and other food places. Basically what they did was get the places to provide a meal once a week during the 3 week production. Saved then a lot of money on feeding the crew.
