I’m having problems getting particles to show up in AE7. I’ve read and tried following all the steps in Aharon’s tutorials on wondertouch site, but all I get in AE is just a white mask (almost as if I’m viewing the particle’s alpha layer except that this time, its completly white shape on a black background, no gray or inbetween shades, just black /white). I’m I missing something?

    Thanks

You need to give us much more information. What file format? What emitter did you use? What background color (in pIllusion)? Did you save with alpha? What interpretation settings in AE7 are you using for the footage? Etc.

Is it possible that you hit Alt+A to display the alpha channel before rendering?

    Thanks Alan,

Basically, I followed Aharon’s tut on wondertouch (https://www.wondertouch.com/tutorials/aharon/CNIA/cnia.html). But, to answer your question, I saved in TGA format (I’ve a little knowledge on working with alpha channels, I bring in stuffs from Maya into AE). And then, I’ve tried intensed particles, non-intensed particles, then mixed bothi. I still come short.

    Thanks

If you open a frame in photoshop, are you seeing white stuff or stuff that has colors?

Sorry Aharon, I was out of town for some time.
When I open a frame in PS, I saw the full color. However while still experimenting I encountered 2 strange occurance.
    1. Some particles actually worked (i.e. I actually succeded in making the particles show full color in AE) however whenever I try to scale up the image (sequence) size (say from 320 X 240 to 640 X 480) in AE the problem retruns. Then,

    2. There some other particles especially explosions, some early frames just wont show in color. (e.g. say I exported a 250 TGA sequence from pi3, in AE the first 50 frames exhibit the problem of showing just in white and black, say from 51 upwards show full color).

    Thanks

I can only make the following suggestions:

    – make sure that particleIllusion stays in the foreground — don’t minimize it or bring other windows in front of it while saving output

    – don’t have other OpenGL apps running at the same time — there may be a conflict.

    – try using software rendering. From the Start menu, Programs – particleIllusion 3 – run with software rendering

If it works with software rendering, then you have a video driver problem.
