problems with firmware update for GH2
Anyone else had problems trying to update to the new ver 1.1 firmware on the GH2? I downloaded the update file fine, and followed all the directions meticulously, but the camera doesn’t seem to recognize the update file – simply says “no valid pics to play” (which the update directions say means the camera is already updated, but looking at the menu for version number, it says I still have version 1.0). I called Panasonic tech support (boy was that a story trying to get through!), and they walked me through the complete process (twice), but still with the same problem. They gave me a case number and said they would escalate it to the next tech support level.
Has anyone else been able to update their GH2? (and no, I did not use the hacked firmware).

I installed Panasonic’s new firmware update v.1.1 on my GH2 without incident. It shouldn’t make a difference, but FYI: I downloaded the firmware from Panasonic’s website via Mac Safari, OS X 10.6.8.
I haven’t had time to do much testing or shooting using the new firmware yet, but my cam seems to be working OK.
I don’t know what you have different there, but here are some things to check:
– Format the card in the GH2, not in your computer, immediately before copying the new firmware file to the card.
– After unzipping the file downloaded from Panasonic’s website, do not change the name of the firmware file; it should be “GH2__V11.bin”. Note there are two underscore (underline) characters in a row in the name.
– Insure the GH2 battery has at least a 50% charge before starting the update process; a 100% fresh charge is preferable. If the battery goes dead while a GH2 firmware update is in progress, “bad things can happen”. Do _not_ use the GH2 AC adapter.
– If the above doesn’t address your issue, you might start again from the beginning using a DIFFERENT SD memory card, again freshly formatted in the GH2.
– If still no joy, you might try downloading Panasonic’s firmware file using a different computer and/or different internet connection.
– If still no joy, call Panasonic tech support back and tell them you did all this and it didn’t work. Hopefully your camera isn’t i need of repair.

I think I know hat the problem is. I had the same. It’s very simple: don’t double click the file you downloaded! Just tranfer it to your SD card.

Thanks for the replies. Kool pointed out the problem – I was following the directions TOO meticulously, including the direction to double click the downloaded file to extract it and to load the extracted file onto the SDHC card. Well, the file is self extracting. The downloaded file is called GH2_V11.bin – this is the one that needs to be copied to the SDHC file, as Kool mentioned. When I double clicked that file (as per directions), I got a file called GH2_V11.bin.cpgz – which is the file I tried to use to upgrade and which didn’t work. Funny thing is, when I talked to Panasonic Tech Support I kept mentioning “you sure I should be copying this file called GH2_V11.bin.cpgz”, and he kept saying yes.
Any way, problem solved. Thanks again for your help.

could someone indicate, which folder on the SDcard is the update supposed to be placed;
I just dragged it on the card and nothing happens.
