  • Problems with creating/moving masks

I am using Sony Vegas Pro 8.1.

I am needing to blur out a license plate and the angle of the plate is changing from frame to frame.

My video is in 16:9 and appears correctly in the preview window. My first problem is, when I click event pan/crop, the image is squished (not displaying 16:9 like the video preview). In the event pan/crop window, I do have “Main Aspect Ratio” set to Yes. When I create a mask, it isn’t covering the same area as I’m selecting.

My second question issue is, I am not able to move the actual mask from frame-to-frame. I do have the Normal edit tool selected but whenever I attempt to grab the mask and move it, it simply moves the image around – not the mask. Since I have to change the position of the mask from frame to frame, I desperately need to simply move it (or alter the size of it which I’m having trouble doing as well) rather than creating new anchor points for each frame.

Thanks for any help or suggestions – this is the first time I’ve had to do something like blur out a moving object! 🙂

Moving the mask is difficult to get at first. You have to get the Normal Edit Tool (the regular cursor) and then click off of the mask to deselect it. Then either Shift+Click each point on the mask one-by-one until they are all selected or right-click on one point and choose select all. Now you can hover over one of them and they all should light up (highlight) which indicates that you have them all selected and moving any one of them will move the whole mask. (tricky but you get use to it)

Right-click in the mask area and do a Select All.
This avoids having to select each one individually.
