problems with capturing dv into final cut-or through quick time.
hey there..
i have a bout 30 miniDV tapes which i need to capture this weekend into my computer.
i have a mac pro and a sony hdv-dv deck (HVR-M15N).
i connected the deck into my computer and set the right info into the final cut capture configuration.
the deck seems to be working(from time to time i cannot see video-audio) i can control it from my computer and start capture.though after a bout 20- seconds the capturing stops final cut tells me few things” there is no video” or “the tape has ended” or “the tape corrupted”
i changed the fire wire cable just to check if it might me it and tape as well..
everything looks just o.k.
the tape contain dv material shoot in 50i
and so the deck confi set to 50i
and so does final cut.tried few other stuff like capturing from quick time 7 and quick time pro and a bout another 3 free dv capturing softwares i found on the web
i have the same problem with all of them.
capturing is stoping in the computer and the deck is keep playing..
i watch the material that the tapes contain on a separate screen–looks just fine.
anyone has any idea???

Since they all exhibit the same problem, the question is, is it the tapes or is it your mac.
I’d like you to take the deck to another mac and try it there.
If that is impossible, I’d like you to install the Mac OS on a different drive and try it on that system.
Basically, we’re trying to figure out if it’s the deck/editorial/os/cables
You say that you’ve tried a different cable…
You say that you’ve tried a different capture tool (which one – QuickTime doesn’t capture video)
Which were the free software?That leaves the Deck and the Cables.
Do you have the camera it was shot on?

thanks for replaying..
i have tried a different computer-but it was a pc.
on the pc it was also running into some problems as many clips were created caused by dropped frames.
looking at the tape (i hooked the deck to a monitor) it all looked wonderful.i thought it might be the software: i tried QTpro(you have to check it out-it does capture video).
i tried adobe on location-which i found a pain.
and the free were-vidi and some other softwares which i cannot remember the names of it.
but it cannot be that so many softwares (some are pro) would fail and create the same problem;
they all cannot connect and when it does it’s just quitting after 20 sec..
so i cleaned my computer-hardware and software wise.
dont know what helped exactly but- final cut seems to be working well when capturing as well as the adobe on location and i movie..i was running through the hole process so that in the future is someone would have the same problem he would have a kind of a check-list to go through.
