problems with Canon 5D mark iii import into Premiere Pro 5.5 on pc

I’m using a free file renaming utility. You can do batch files, no problem. If you google it, you will find lots of them. I’m not in front of my work computer now so can’t tell you the name of the one I’m using.

You can easily do this by holding shift and right clicking on the folder (Windows). Then click on open command line here. Once you have the dialog box open you can type the following: ren *.mov *.mpg

Have you figured anything out since you posted this? I am also having issues in CS5 importing files AND editing. It’s slow and buggy. I also have issues with them becoming offline and never syncing back to online. And don’t get me started when trying to deal with Encoder. It freezes every time. I have an awesome PC configuration so you would think it would handle the files with no problem but now I have come to the conclusion that it’s Adobe. I’m surprised that no one has posted any online tutorials to explain their workflow with Mark III files yet…

How did you import the file with the IPB codec? I’ve been having problems importing it to my mac (OSX Lion). I used multiple card readers, aperture, canon’s own import softwares… I just get an error with the files in the card. I can view all the video recordings I did on my 5D3. Please let me know!

Yes, it’s in my second post up there. You rename the .mov file to .mpg

Then PP 5.5 can import it no problem.

I’ve been using CS6 for awhile now so I haven’t had to do this anymore.

You can use Bridge to rename. Go to tools and batch rename. In presets, select string substitution and in find type MOV and in replace type MPG. Done. 🙂

I have the same problem. Not all clips from Mk III would import in Premiere 5.5, not even in Media Encoder. Although the files play just fine with VLC, MEdia Player..etc…
