problems with 60p VariCam footage in FCP 4.5!!!
I recently just shot a a high end music video on the VariCam. I’m used to shooting 35mm but thought I whould give HD a try. I’m very pleased with the image, however, I shot both 24p and 60p and how the frig do I capture the 60p slo-mo in FCP!!! I’m going beserk, I’ve been on every website in the world, and called everybody who would listen. Nothing I do seems to work. Every time I try, it begins to capture then quickly aborts saying that it has dropped frames. I’m working on 2.5 gigahertz dual G5 with 2.5 gigs of RAM. Shouldn’t that be enough??
Doesn’t anybody know how to do this?!?!?!
I have 8 tapes, an AJ-hd1200A deck, and I NEED TO CAPTURE THIS IMMEDIATELY.
PLEASE HELP OR ADVISE, or at least tell me which kind of poison will kill me the quickest!

Although I am not the FCP expert usually when dropped frames occur it’s because of disk speed. What disks are you trying to capture to? This may give the FCP experts a better shot at answering your question.

Please don’t tell me you are using a single internal hard drive to capture your footage.
You don’t need to take any poison just a dose of FCP, G5 hardware and hard drive spec’s knowledge.

Be sure that your 1200a is connected to it’s own firewire bus, preferably the Apple factory bus in the rear of the computer. If you are capturing to a firewire 800 drive, it needs to be on its own INDEPENDENT firewire bus… you may need to install a seperate firewire card.
Never capture to the internal drive which shares the OS.

Dropped frames could also indicate an impropperly set up deck. Here is a site with the propper settings:

Also, when capturing 720 60p material for conversion, you must be in easy set-up 720 60p. However, to edit the material, you must be in 720 24p.
