I have an IMac g5 1.8GHz 1024RAM, 80 gig hd + 250 gig ext and every time i start up final cut pro it reacts very slow for like 15/20 minutes. The processor makes a lot of noise and its not possible to even see a film. After a while it’s possible to start editting and everything goes smooth. Then if i open another program like Word or iTunes the same happens and sometimes fcp or the whole computer even crashes. Any idea what i could do to prevent this to happen???Thanks

When’s the last time you performed system maintenance on your startup and media drives? If it’s been a while then that should be your first course of action. This involves cleaning system log and cache files, rebuilding hard drive directories with stellar programs like DiskWarrior, repairing disk permissions with Apple’s Disk Utility, etc. You might try downloading the first installment of Creative Cow’s online magazine and read the article by Jerry Hofmann entitled: “Achieving A Rock Solid Final Cut Pro System.”
