  • Problems Rotating Transparency Map

I am creating an eyeball using a technique I saw in a tutorial for Maya. In this technique, the iris is a separate object positioned within the eyeball sphere. A radial gradient is then applied as a transparency map to the eyeball sphere, so that the coronal bump (front of the eye) is transparent, and we can see the iris, allowing the iris and the eyeball to have different specular settings.

The problem I am having is that when I apply the transparency map to the eyeball, the transparent part is on the left of the eyeball and not the front. I have tried using the texture tool and texture axis tool to rotate the texture, but have been unsuccessful in changing the position or orientation in the slightest. I am a total noob to all things 3d, so I am sure the solution is something simple. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Have you tried making a poly selection.

in polygon mode highlight the polys you want then go to selection: set selection.
then you get a orange triangle beside the object then asign that poly selection to the texture.
You can assign more than one Selection to a polygon.

Use a spherical-3D gradient and set it to “Texture” space. That should do it.
