  • Problems reading/writing PICT files with Mac Photoshop CS5.5

I recently exported a bunch of PCT files from an AfterEffects CS4 project. Those files read fine in Photoshop CS4, but when I try to read them in CS5.5 I get an error saying “Could not complete your request because the PICT contains data that is no longer supported by this version of Photoshop.” I’ve also noticed when I go to save a file from 5.5 that I’m not given the option of saving it as a PICT. (I created a blank 300×300 75dpi, RGB 8-bit image with no alpha for this test) I’d never notice this behavior before. Has CS5.5 stopped supporting the PICT format, or is there something strange going on with my computer?
(Actually I’ve notice this behavior on both my MacPro and my MacBook Pro.)

I’m running OS 10.6.8 on both the MacPro and the MacBook. Photoshop is version 12.1 x64.

Thanks in advance for any help.

That file format is discontinued. You’ll need to go ahead and batch convert using a utility like graphic converter.

I was afraid someone was going to say that. I’ve got LOTS of pict files.

Thanks for the quick response Richard.
