Problems printing to video

Julie- Don’t be intimidated by installing a firewire 400 PCI card. If you havn’t pulled the side off a G-5 this is a good time to learn (if you are inclined to do so). We bought ours at the local Mac dealer for $19. The G-5 manual gives a step by step (with photos I believe) on how its done.

Thanks for the info! I’ve opened up my mac a few times now… once to install more memory, then again to take out said memory and install the CORRECT memory. (It’s nice when a retail website tells you a product is compatible…only to have your system crash constantly and the product manufacturer tell you it’s NOT compatible). But yes, it’s a little intimidating. I’m glad I have a co-worker who’s good at installing things!

I didn’t say anything about monitoring at all. I just said that the way that you set up an Edit to Tape is exactly the same. I was replying to your statement here:

FCP does edit to a specific TC number. So that’s why I’m confused. You can even punch in if you have the correct deck and device control.

You can log a feature request, but again, this has nothing to do with setting up an ETT and starting the show at hour 1. My only point was that setting up for ETT is exactly the same. As far as more features as you’re laying back goes – sure, that’d by nice to have more visual feedback. However, I don’t really need VUs or TC display, as I can see those on my deck.

Which window? During Edit to Tape? Maybe it displays non-square because it takes less overhead. Never really noticed that if it’s true.

I guess the engineers figured that there’s enough horsepower to have a dislplay on layback. I still sometimes run FCP on the ol’ G3 400 and have no trouble with proc overhead.

And do you realize how many people run FCP without a NTSC monitor? In my FCP User Group, over 90% of the users do not work with a video monitor connected as they work. A shame, yes, but it’s true. You don’t really need one when you’re offlining. But yes, it’s true that you should have one hooked up on output – unfortunately, many people do not.

My main point was that setting up an ETT was the same on both systems.

Sorry, been reading along – here is my on topic but off topic issue with FCP and output of timecode to tape in PTV output…

I edit a fair amount of live multicamera award and corporte shows that have a live element (to large projection) and a tape archive for future use. They often need some fix-up on a portion of a single source BSP or DIGIBETA tape. All tapes have Time-of-Day timecode for all machines to match any cameras that a wild and not going to the live audience. I have one right now where the set-up on one camera of the line cut was way wrong in the record and I need to go in and color correct but then re-output this tape with THE SAME TIMECODE as it started, frame for frame or they will never be able to deal with the rest of the edits.

So what is the answer. I
