Problems exporting a quicktime
Hi Everyone! It’s been about 3 weeks since I last posted and am STILL having problems taking a project off to tape (thank goodness I’m not on a deadline!) The problem is that it keeps dropping frames while recording…every time at a different part of the project. I tried the three suggestions given: 1. Mixdown audio…didn’t help. 2. Record directly off the timeline…didn’t work 3. Buy a new firewire card so that my deck and external drive are on different buses…didn’t work.
My latest attempt is to export the entire project into a quicktime (using the “export quicktime” function, not “export using conversion”) and then try to take THAT off to tape. Here’s the new problem. I have each audio track in my sequence set to go to either ch 1 or ch 2 (split master keeping narration/dialogue separate from music/sfx). When I make my export…everything is mixed on ch 1 only and is too loud. What the heck?? My sequence settings are so that my audio has 2 outputs, dual mono, downmix is set to 0dB.
Any ideas how I can get this project to work with me and go off to tape like a good little project should? Any input is much appreciated! Thanks!!

Thanks for your help, Dave! I ended up archiving the project a different way, though. I did what you suggested…and found other challenges with my audio (it never ends!) and decided that it wasn’t worth a day’s worth of my wages to comb through the timeline and fix the audio problems…just to have it probably not go off to tape anyway. So I just turned off all the music/sfx and exported the narration/dialogue as an aiff…then did the same for the music/sfx. Then exported the video and burned a DVD off the three files. Now, if I have to make any changes to the project, I just have to go to the DVD and copy the files over.
Yes, it’s a work-around and it doesn’t actually fix my problem of not being able to get anything off to tape…but I think my problems lie deeper than the “dropped frames” surface… >:(
