Problems editing .mxf and .mov files in Sony Vegas Pro 8.0
First, I’ll ask about the .mov file, since I’m sure this may be the simplest problem to resolve:
Pretty much, I can hear the audio, but the video isn’t there. It’s just a black screen. I can open the source file just fine in VLC and view my footage, so I know there’s video. What can I do to correct this issue? Also, if you need to know any other specs about the .mov file, ask and I’ll provide.
Next comes the part I’m sure some of you have tackled on here in the past: getting an .mxf file into Vegas.
I know that there’s Raylight, but that’s way out of my price range (I’m to understand I would need the Raylight Ultra codec, which runs at around $195). Is there another way to put these files into Vegas? My friend told me about a program he paid $35 for called “Pavetube”. I did a Google search, and I came up with this:
Does anyone know what this is or has used it before, and if it can do what I’d need it to do? Otherwise, what’s a way one can convert .mxf files to be used into Sony Vegas, without ever losing their original video quality?

The biggest problem with .mov files is that Apple keeps changing things on us 🙁
Pro 9.0d and Pro 10 have no problem opening recent .mov files but Pro 8 is limited to, as I recall, version 7.6.2 of QuickTime which isn’t new enough for your needs.As far as .mxf files are concerned, I trust you’re referring to P2 MXF files from a Panasonic camera.
If that is the case, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Raylight is your only option.
It is $195 but if you do a Google search for “Raylight Ultra Discount Code”, you’ll find a link to a site with a $75 discount code good through 6/30/2011.The “Pavetube” link you gave is for ripping software which is of no use to you.

Thank you. And yes, I was referring to the Panasonic version of .mxf.
That said, are you absolutely SURE there is no other way around both the .mov footage and the .mxf problems before I go ahead and buy this codec?

Well… one other way around the MOV problem is to upgrade to Vegas Pro 10 which doesn’t have this problem. You can’t expect to use software that’s two versions old and have it continue to work.
Of course a more expensive solution to the Panasonic problem is to buy a Sony camera. 😉 But seriously, Panasonic will never be natively supported by Sony so you need to either use another camera, use another NLE, or buy RayLight.
