Most of these problems are usually attributed to the fact that you are actually running other applications at the same time, and unfortunately, it often has to do with other Adobe applications, or even an antivirus. The only way around this is good planning 😉

Aanarav should be credited for bringing a cool little software to our attention called EndItAll, it will kill all the processes running in the background BEFORE you start Premiere. I can almost guarantee you that most of these issues will go away. If they don’t, you need a clean OS or Premiere install.

For the firewire device issue, make sure that only one device is plugged in, and that should be the one Premiere is using. After Effects is also the one you have to look out for since it also uses firewire out for preview.

BTW, HP is well known for bundling a bunch of crap that usually runs at start up. I would also uninstall anything that says HP in front of it, unless you know you absolutely need it.

Everyone has his own opinion. In my case I have 2 HP running PP2 and it works flawlessly. The first one I bought about 2 years ago is a AMD 3400+ with 1 gig of ram and a 200g for “c” and another 160g for capturing, rendering, etc. The video card is an nVidia FX 5200xt.
This PC has worked real good with no problema so far. Inclusive had worked better than a customized PC that friend bought with a Matrox card.

Well I bought another HP dual core 4200, 1g ram, (nvidia 7300gs PCI card)almost idem in everything else and also is working like a charm.($1100) This last render a litter faster but not as a thunder.

With the capture divice “not online” I had the same trouble. I bought another Firewire cable and started working ok. I void to connect/disconnecting the firewire because I think its a matter of good contact in the player port… not related to Premiere. Try to power down & up the player to see if the system recognized it & choose PP in the menu. If not this is the probl.

Also, I think you’re having memory problems. Try to seat-reseat your rams & and if this don’t work, change it for new unregistered ones.
Everyone know that PP got slugish from time to time ang also the jumping playback. When this happen I save all, and shutdown the PC for a couple of minutes. Then this time it run better at power up…. and don’t connect your editing PC to the internet and remove the antivirus. Leave it alone!! This is my opinion!!!
