I am having problems with a .avi file i am trying to import into Premiere Pro. It plays fine in the preview monitor, but when i drop the clip onto the timeline nothing shows up but a black screen, not even the audio. I have rendered the clip completly yet still nothing. Can anyone please help me figure this out i need to use this clip. Thank you.

How would I go about figuring out what kind of avi file it is? and what kinds of avi files are suitable for Premiere Pro? It is a file i extracted off of a DVD that my customer gave me, its nothing more than a musical performance burned onto DVD. How do i take this performance and import it into Premiere to edit it together with the rest of my material. Thank you so much for your help.

An AVI file is just one that contains both audio and video, it can be in different formats such as Quicktime, various types of MPEG, indeo, etc. Premiere is basically a DV AVI editor, it doesn’t work with mpeg very well, you didn’t describe how you extracted the file from the DVD and what software you used.

i used DVD decrypter first and then auto gordion knot. if this was the wrong way, do you know another way i could extract the clip off the dvd and import it into premiere pro for editing.
