  • Problem with Sony Vegas Movie Studio and letterboxing

I’ve been having a problem with my videos being letterboxed when uploaded to Youtube, after I recently had to get a new hard drive for my laptop, therefore having to reinstall SV and losing all my old settings and preferences. I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11.

Prior to getting a new hard drive, I had my Vegas settings so that my videos were widescreen, and when I uploaded them to Youtube there were absolutely NO letterboxing/black lines at the side and top. This is how I prefer my videos to be because I make music videos and compilations of shows/anime, and generally need the best quality I can get. The letterboxing is somewhat ugly and ruins the effect.

That was then, but now, Youtube adds two black lines to either side of my videos. The black lines don’t show on SV, they ONLY show up when I upload my videos to Youtube. I’ve also tried using a bunch of different screen sizes (height/width) and playing around with certain settings on Sony Vegas, but no matter what, the black lines show up when I upload to Youtube. Before rendering I always check the “stretch video to fill output frame size (do not letterbox)” option, but all this does is get rid of the top and bottom letterboxing; the ones at the side still show.

I made an example of what’s going on in case I haven’t explained well enough: https://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb340/FlarghlLarghson/exampleofannoyingness.png

Does anyone know how to fix this? I’m pretty desperate.

    Thanks in advance~

(Also, I’ve only just joined the site, sorry if I’m posting in the wrong place or something, I wasn’t completely sure…)

What render template are you using? From your screenshot, you preview looks like your project is set to 1920×1080. So how are you rendering?

Look in File>Properties look at the “Template” section you may have it set to NTSC DV which is 720X480 or something with a less than idea frame size. I haven’t posted to youtube in a while but I’d be willing to bet you can change the defult templete (make sure to make it default when you find the one you like)that will be more compatiable to youtube.

Also make sure you’re outputing formate is set to same frame size you chose, most default to “project size” but if you have a “go to” preset you hand select and not a general standard like HD1080i or 720p it might get a little hairy.
